Holy Cross Church – update on boundary wall reconstruction

The Parish Council are continuing to arrange for the rebuilding of the first section of the Church boundary wall in Church Street Pattishall.

The Parish Council are continuing to arrange for the rebuilding of the first section of the Church boundary wall in Church Street Pattishall.

Tenders for the work have been obtained. The PC are working through the pre-commencement planning conditions, which are:

  • Archaeology
  • Temporary closure and diversion of footpath RT26

Footpath RT26 runs past the Church and down to the Church Steps, the diversion will follow the public highway footpath on the far side of Church Street. Access for services at the Church will not be affected by the diversion.

The PC anticipate that the archaeological survey of the wall will take place in August by which time we anticipate the footpath diversion will be in place.

We are continuing to seek funding for the works to the wall, but we have not had much success so far.

Lime trees

Unfortunately, the two large lime trees by the Church steps need to be felled.

This is partly due to the rebuilding of the boundary wall.  When the groundwork commences the root base of the trees will be impacted and unavoidably damaged.  There are also signs of decay in some of the larger branches.  The Parish Council will consider planting two trees as replacements in a suitable, alternate location.
